So here’s the theory – when we as adults can share our blind spots and vulnerabilities with others, particularly our own children, children become aware that the adults have also done things similar to them or faced anxieties just like them.
This assures them that experiences they go through are common for all and not just unique to them. And trust us – this is a great space for children to be in!
All you need is half an A4 sheet of paper per person with ‘Have’ written on one side and ‘Have not’ written on the other.
- Now that you are ready, gather around, and if possible be seated in a circle – This enables clear visibility and eye contact with all playing members.
- One member starts by narrating something they’ve never done. For example – “I’ve never cheated in an exam” or “I’ve been afraid of the dark since my childhood”
- The remaining members hold up the “Have” card (if they also have been through or done the same), and if they haven’t, they hold up the “Have Not ” card
What to expect? A lot of “ha ha ha”, “oh!”, “really?”, “you too?”, “I don’t believe it”.
Go ahead! Try it out. Connect with each other and don’t forget to have fun!
